FAQ

If you are considering leaving your horse at La Corona Residencia Equina, it is only natural that many questions come to mind. That simply means you are looking for the very best for your equine companion.

We answer them in detail

What type of accommodation do you offer at La Corona Residencia Equina?

Our centre is the ideal place for the retirement and rest of horses, ponies and donkeys, as well as for their recovery after periods of activity. We also host foals so they can grow, develop and be educated within an adult herd. In short, it is an ideal rest environment for horses.

Another of our services, with excellent results, is the re-education of horses with undesired behaviours in sporting practice, always living in a herd with other horses.

Where will my horse live?

At La Corona Residencia Equina, retired horses and ponies, those in recovery or at rest, as well as foals that are meant to grow, develop and be educated within an adult herd, live in semi-freedom on very large plots (from 50,000 to 300,000 square metres). These areas are protected by electrified fencing and include pastureland, forested areas, shrub zones and water troughs.

How is my horse introduced into the herd?

Horse rest and retirement require a clear protocol. We have a prior reception system that allows for progressive adaptation to the centre, coexistence with other horses and final integration into the herd. This process also includes adapting the horse’s previous diet to our pasture, forage and concentrate system, daily supervision of their physical and mental condition, and observation of interactions with their new companions at La Corona

Everything is gradual and progressive. We adapt to each horse according to its individual characteristics and provide personalised follow-up to ensure proper adaptation to its new home.

Will my horse always be outdoors, or will there be shelter available?

We love this question, because the answer usually surprises our clients. The auxiliary areas and paddocks used for adaptation or recovery are equipped with shelters or boxes. The main plots include large areas of managed forest where horses can move freely, and which also provide natural shelter should they choose to use it.

Based on our experience, horses do not use shelters if they have access to forested areas. The forest acts as a buffer against extreme temperatures and improves the horse’s comfort both in summer and winter. It also reduces wind speed and provides pleasant shade on very hot days. In addition, the forest offers many stimuli thanks to its diverse vegetation and wildlife.

As a close friend and collaborator of La Corona Residencia Equina once told us: “Shelters are for humans.” Horses clearly prefer to take refuge among the trees, and if it rains, they enjoy a refreshing shower. Nature truly provides the best rest for horses.

That said, all our auxiliary paddocks are equipped with shelters. Paddocks at La Corona have specific purposes, such as isolating horses when temporary treatments are required.

How often can I visit my horse?

As often as you wish. We are located just 40 km from Barcelona. The estate is far from noise and urban stress, yet very well connected and easy to reach. Come and see your horse enjoying its new life—and enjoy it together whenever you like

What is included in the monthly boarding fee?

The boarding fee at La Corona Residencia Equina is very competitive. Even so, we do not want you to choose us based on price, but on the quality we offer and the wellbeing of your horse. We offer different rates depending on each boarding case. Once you tell us about your horse’s needs, we adapt accordingly

Advantages compared to other equine residences include:

– Agreements with service and product suppliers that help reduce your horse’s annual costs.

– No additional mark-ups on treatments or products. Clients pay the direct cost charged by the profess ional or for the supplied product.

– As a large equine family, we benefit from strong purchasing power and negotiation capacity with both regular and occasional suppliers.

Will my horse be insured?

The monthly boarding fee includes all general coverage insurance, covering essential aspects for both your horse and yourself, resulting in annual savings and peace of mind.

Which horses can you not accommodate?

At La Corona Residencia Equina, horses and ponies live freely in mixed herds of mares and geldings. For this reason, we cannot accommodate entire (uncastrated) horses or ponies.

We do have large paddocks with robust wooden fencing, shelters and trees where recently castrated horses and ponies can stay until hormonal balance is achieved and they can be integrated with the rest of the herd.

If your horse or pony is coming for a rest period of less than three months and you prefer that they are not integrated into the main herd—but you also do not want them to be alone—we have parcels where they will be accompanied by horses, ponies and donkeys owned by La Corona Residencia Equina.

For equines requiring daily care, lifelong treatments or medication, for whom living freely in a herd is not recommended, we collaborate with trusted centres that offer retirement and boarding in controlled environments with large paddocks.

Happy stories at La Corona Residencia Equina

Arwen

She was the first mare we adopted. She arrived at the age of 20 in very poor physical and mental condition. We rescued her, she recovered wonderfully, received everything she needed and a great deal of love. She left us suddenly in 2019, but we know that the time she spent at La Corona was immensely happy.

Auermann

He arrived at the end of 2012, retired from dressage due to irreversible joint conditions. Today he lives happily, closely bonded with Vanderbilt. Both are leaders of the herd groups. At La Corona, we say they are the CEOs of our equine community.

Indo

A trotting horse who arrived in 2013, psychologically very affected by the excessive pressure he experienced during intense racing periods. Today he is calm, living peacefully and happily with his companions. He belongs to the trusted circle of Auermann and Vanderbilt.

Lunali y Felipa

They arrived as foals in 2013, very distrustful and skittish. They grew exceptionally well, developed excellent musculature and today trust humans and enjoy giving and receiving affection. After completing their growth and development at La Corona Residencia Equina, they were acquired by a wonderful family of equestrian professionals in Germany, where they now enjoy a very happy life filled with care and attention.

I want a happy story for my horse!
